To: Northwest Airlines Inc. Sub: D.B. Cooper Gentlemen; Last fall while hunting in the Sierra Mountains, I found a piece of parachute hidden under a log. I thought the chute may have been Cooper's, so I gave it to the F.B.I. and they brought it back to me this spring, and said that it could be his chute, they couldn't tell. so we couldn't follow any further at that time.
Now we would like to find out if there is any reward for finding the money or Cooper's remains. Frankly, we have spent a good deal of time and money tracking this fellow, and we can't afford to do any more unless there is some payoff for finding him. I am certain that I can find him if conditions stay the same as they are now, but if too many more [guess: club-footed] people go through this area, rolling over rocks and logs, before we get back, it will be impossible to track him any further. Another hunting season is coming soon and after that it will be too late, for another year, so if you could answer soon we would be very grateful.
Respectfully [guess: Art Wheeler]
