RE: SEARCH OF THE AIRCRAFT

On 12/2/71 SA [REDACTED] Philadelphia Division, advised that he had reinterviewed [REDACTED] earlier that day and in addition, [REDACTED] and SA [REDACTED] had gone to the airport at Philadelphia and looked over the after section of a Boeing 727 with the assistance of a mechanic.

[REDACTED] advised that he has theorized, based on the information given by [REDACTED] that the hijacker might never have jumped from the aircraft. He said the hijacker is apparently an intelligent individual and his jumping under such unfavorable conditions was extremely dangerous.

[REDACTED] advised that in inspecting the aircraft they found that, as you look toward the rear of the plane, the control handle which raises and lowers the air stairs is located on the left side of the aircraft. Right next to it, farther back, is a fairly large panel which hinges at the top with a locking latch at the bottom. The latch can be opened either from inside or outside. 164-81-572 The purpose of the section is to permit inspection of the aircraft in the tail section. He said there is a similar inspection hatch on the right side of the aircraft. However, on the right side the compartment is small and contains

exhause pipes which make it extremely hot in that area. However, on the lift side there is plenty of space for a man to hide, and flying under 10,000 feet would not be uncomfortable. [REDACTED] suggestion was that the hijacker might have hidden in that compartment and when everyone had left the plane and the area he could leave the aircraft. ASAC BIBLER telephonically contacted the Las Vegas Office to inquire as to whether or not these compartments had been located and searched and the Minneapolis Office also was contacted to determine where the plane is now located so that a search can be made of those compartments in the event they have not already been searched either by the FBI at Reno or by the airlines own mechanics at any location.
