TO : SAC, PORTLAND (164-41) FROM : SAC, SEATTLE (164-81)(P) SUBJECT: NORJAK

On 7/15/75, [REDACTED], Northwest Airlines (NWA), Office telephone 433-3607, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Seattle, Washington, said he received a call during the night hours of 7/14-15/75 from a former high school acquaintance, [REDACTED] of Albany, Oregon, who, obviously intoxicated and in a rambling story said he was in trouble which involved NWA. He wanted [REDACTED] to help if he could and then related that he had found a parachute which might be involved in the hijacking of NWA plane in November, 1971. He also intimated that they might know where the money was hidden.

[REDACTED] has not seen [REDACTED] for at least seven years but they had been good friends, both being pilots. [REDACTED] is in business with [REDACTED] in Albany.

At 8:00 AM, 7/15/75, [REDACTED] received another call, this time from [REDACTED] who explained, also in a rather confused way, that [REDACTED] are in difficulty, having been accused of stealing an airplane. [REDACTED] then explained that they had paid $15,000 down for the plane which had been at Vancouver, Washington and in need of repairs. It never was made clear to [REDACTED] if the plane was still in Vancouver or had been taken to Oregon or elsewhere. [REDACTED] in some way, inferred that the plane was connected with the NWA hijacking. [REDACTED] that he had found the parachute "on his property" (not making it clear whether a personal farm or the property of the business) while using machinery to plow. The number

on the parachute was given to [REDACTED]; the color was not given. [REDACTED] also said that they thought the money might be hidden. He also said the parachute was a military type.

[REDACTED] said that the difficulty involv- ing [REDACTED] is known to SA [REDACTED] at Eugene, Oregon and it was not clear if SA [REDACTED] had been advised of the above information.

---

Seattle file on NORJAK does not contain serial numbers of the parachutes. Therefore it is not possible to eliminate a particulat chute on the basis of a number alone.

Interview [REDACTED] for clarification of their information to see if in fact it might relate to NORJAK.

---

If the circumstances of the finding of the para- chute could suggest that it might be involved in NORJAK, the chute should be obtained and forwarded to Seattle to be examined by the man who packed the chutes in the NORJAK case.
