Re FD 71 of SA [REDACTED] dated 12/31/71. b6 b7C RE: Suspect [REDACTED] [REDACTED]
---
On 1/3/72, [REDACTED] Security Pacific National Bank, 6th and Alvarado Street, Los Angeles, was contacted by the writer. An artist's conception of the hijacker was displayed to him and he advised the artist's sketch did not resemble the person who had been in the bank and identified himself as [REDACTED]. He continued that although the man professed to be [REDACTED] the questions asked were very unusual and, in his opinion, could be the type of questions asked by someone who either has committed a crime or plans to commit one.
---
[REDACTED] stated [REDACTED] had advised of a previous b6 account with a bank in Des Moines, Iowa, and he, [REDACTED] b7C had requested verification of [REDACTED] claim through the Iowa bank. [REDACTED] stated [REDACTED] had furnished an address of [REDACTED] Los Angeles.
---
On 1/4/72, [REDACTED] of the b6 apartment building located at [REDACTED] Los b7C Angeles, telephone [REDACTED] advised [REDACTED] had been a tenant at this address since [REDACTED]. He had resided in Room [REDACTED] until [REDACTED]. Upon the arrival of his two sons, [REDACTED] about Thanksgiving he had moved into Room [REDACTED] which was larger than the room he previously occupied. Following the Thanksgiving holidays, both sons had left; one to visit his mother, believed to reside in Michigan or some midwestern state. The other one had been introduced to her as a recent [REDACTED] and [REDACTED]. [REDACTED] She stated he wore a full beard and appeared to be about [REDACTED]. Her records indicate that [REDACTED] [REDACTED] has telephone [REDACTED]

She knows [REDACTED] as she has observed [REDACTED] from at [REDACTED] on several occasions. She stated these [REDACTED] apparently were [REDACTED] [REDACTED] and being returned [REDACTED] [REDACTED] He has talked to her about his [REDACTED] and has never been at all secretive or suspicious in his activities. Upon the arrival of his two sons he had boastfully introduced them to her and to many other tenants in the building.
---
[REDACTED] could not state positively that she had observed [REDACTED] at the apartment house on 11/24/71, but stated the two young men had arrived sometime between 11/17/71 and 11/25/71, and she was virtually certain that he, [REDACTED] was there during that entire period.
---
On 1/8/72, [REDACTED] telephonically advised he had confirmed information previously supplied by [REDACTED] that he had a prior account with the West Des Moines Bank, Des Moines, Iowa. He also stated that [REDACTED] had entered the bank since the last contact by the FBI and had deposited a small amount of currency, including three $20 bills. The serial numbers of these bills were checked against the ransom list in this matter and were found unidentical.
---
Inasmuch as both the bank [REDACTED] and the apartment house [REDACTED] have observed the artist's conception and both advise [REDACTED] does not resemble this drawing, $20 bills in the possession of [REDACTED] were not identical with the ransom money, and it has been confirmed by the apartment house [REDACTED] that [REDACTED] is known to be [REDACTED] it does not appear this matter warrants additional investigation at this time.
