PSYCHIATRIC SUMMARY : [REDACTED] was seen for psychiatric evaluation after he gave an unconfirmed past psychiatric history of being hospitalized on two previous occasions. He indicates that he was hospitalized in 1950 for pre-sent- encing observation for a period of 5 weeks at the Valhalla State Hospital at Valhalla, New York. After the five weeks period of observation he was returned to the court [guess: finding] found to be mentally competent and sentenced. His second hospitalization occurred at the California Medical Facility at Vacaville, California, under the name of [REDACTED] with a number of 45892. This Vacaville hospitalization was not actually a real psychiatric hospitalization. He was at Vacaville originally as a new case admitted as routine to the reception center. He was retained there as a worker but was a patient status. He indicates that he was sent there by the state court but not for any overt psychiatric disorder. He states that he was an inmate clerk during his stay at this institution and received no psychiatric treatment except group therapy during his incarceration there. In connection with his current offense he received a psychiatric pre-sentence ev- aluation while incarcerated at Omaha, Nebraska. He was again declared competent and responsible by the court. The request for pre-sentence psychiatric examination was made by inmate's attorney. The inmate presented no particular overt symptoms . The examination was requested supposedly because of the serious nature of the offense and accordingly an examination ordered by the court without other indications for question- ing competency or sanity.

He actually has never suffered a nervous breakdown. At the present time he denies the chronic use of alcohol or narcotics. He presents a satisfactory interview impression. He appears to be interested in a clerical assignment and other than his basic character disorder does not present any overt psychiatric symptom s at the pre- sent time.
